BREATHTAKER ALL SUITE HOTEL – HISTORY

Built in 1981/82 by Macmahon Construction Pty Ltd for Breathtaker Ski Lodge Pty Ltd. John McDonald Snr, CEO of the Macmahon Holdings Ltd Group of Companies, along with Company Architect Peter Milne, headed up the project, thinking it would be a positive move to have a South Australian presence on the mountain. Breathtaker Ski Lodge, as it was known until 2000, was opened on the 12th June, 1982 by the Honourable Rod Mackenzie, Minister of Forests for Victoria, with 250 invited dignitaries and guests. Breathtaker managed to make quite an impact on the mountain setting new standards in accommodation, fine dining and genuine hospitality.

BREATHTAKER ALL SUITE HOTEL – PRESENT

By offering superior service and hospitality, Breathtaker All Suite Hotel has earned its reputation throughout Australia over the past 26years as one of Mount Buller’s premier hotels. As Mt Buller is the closest major snow Resort to Melbourne it is no surprise that our clientele comes largely from this area, although there has been a major increase in guests travelling from both Queensland and Perth.

During the summer of 2000, most of the accommodation at Breathtaker was totally refurbished to achieve a more modern & ‘lighter’ look. Work was also carried out to re-furbish the Entrance Foyer and Reception. Before opening for winter 2000, we adopted the name Breathtaker All Suite Hotel. During the summer of 2001, the Hotel again closed down and major renovations continued. It was during this time that we built our Destination Spa, Conference & Business Areas and Day Use Area. Staff Accommodation, the Brasserie and the Public Areas were also renovated during this time. Summer 2002 has seen four more standard suites refurbished.

Breathtaker All Suite Hotel has 33 Deluxe Non Smoking Suites, offering our guests a range of Studio, 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedroom suites. All suites are self-contained and offer cooking facilities. Winter 2007, saw the addition of our 3.5 level modern Grand Suite, 507.
